Plan, Pack and Prep
Planning, packing and prepping are a huge part of your success on race day, so start off by acknowledging their importance and scheduling it in. It takes years of practice to truly get it right, especially if you race through different seasons. You need to learn how your body reacts to different temperatures, different food and hydration combinations and bike set-up. Fine tuning it is one thing, but you don´t want to get it wildly wrong for your first race though, so do your best to inform yourself as much as you can beforehand. Allow yourself plenty of extra time before the race starts so that you can sign in, attach your number to the right bike or body part. Bring extra spares and ditch what you don´t need after speaking to some other competitors first. Layer up, but be prepared to remove them, so clothing like arm warmers that can be dropped mid-race or a light over jacket that can be packed into a small pocket are fantastic extras.
Feeling unsure of yourself? Write an extensive list and send it to a friendly face for approval in advance.
